Introducing Farmborough Playgroup

Farmborough Playgroup was started 40 years ago to provide early years education for children living in this area of Somerset. We aim to offer a secure and caring environment in which children can meet, play together and enjoy wide range of experiences.

We are a member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance which ensures we are constantly in touch with new thinking in the field of childcare and education. It means we adhere to the ethos of 'learning through play' and therefore encourage children to value their efforts and have confidence in them. We believe that the process of play is the main means in which young children learn.

Our playgroup has always had strong links with Farmborough Primary School and in January 2007 we moved into a specially converted room at the school. The wonderful space we now occupy was refurbished with funding from the school, Bath and North East Somerset Council and two ‘Awards for All’ Lottery grants.

The room is bright and colourful with its own kitchen, toilets and cloakroom. Toys and equipment are thoughtfully rotated in and out of use, so that there is always something different and exciting for the children to play with.

We also have our own purpose built, outdoor play area with secure gates and fencing, which the children use as often as the weather permits! This has an all weather surface, flowerbed and containers for the children to grow things in as well as storage for play equipment and bikes.

Children tend to progress to the village school, or to schools in neighbouring villages, but children from any area or background are welcomed. We aim towards equality of opportunity and strive to be sensitive to any issues of culture, race, gender, special needs and varying family backgrounds.

Our aim is to provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment, which ensures equal opportunity for all children and families.
